Group Lessons

Traditionally, piano lessons have been given on a one-to-one basis. However, more and more research is showing the benefits of learning in a group setting:

-Making music together is an impactful way for students to engage with piano learning

-When students learn together and have a common aim, they work as a team and each individual is motivated and invested

-Group piano builds confidence. With small-group activities, even the shyest child comes out of their shell

-Progress can be faster in group piano. Kids naturally want to keep up with their friends and are motivated to practise

-Connections, friendships, the feeling of belonging.....Some of the magic of playing in a music ensemble.

-Group piano is fun! With a variety of musical games and activities, there's never a dull moment. Time whizzes by in a positive, supportive environment.

Some teachers may offer to teach students of different levels in a group setting, simply by giving each child a set of headphones for their keyboard, and dividing the teacher's time between each pupil. .

But...., I don't believe this makes the best use of a group setting, and my group lessons are structured a little differently! All students are taught collectively as a group, they learn together. As we cycle round the topics, individual learners are managed within the group, by using different challenge levels for each piece. This wonderful approach means that students can learn at their own pace whilst still taking part in collective music-making. I only work in small groups, which allows me to closely monitor students progress and tailor my approach to suit their learning styles. Once each student has consolidated each topic they will be ready to move up to the next level.
